Yercaud welcomes those escaping summer heat, sees surge in Tamil New Year, weekend tourism

Amidst the relentless heatwave gripping the region, an influx of tourists has sought refuge in the tranquil embrace of the Yercaud Hills in Salem district.
Taking advantage of the Tamil New Year holiday and the ensuing weekend leave, a multitude of travelers, weary from the scorching temperatures, have converged upon this serene hill station to bask in its cool climate.
The streets of Yercaud witnessed a flurry of activity over the weekend as visitors from neighboring states such as Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Pondicherry, among others, inundated the quaint town.
Local eateries and shops thrived, capitalizing on the increased foot traffic brought by the surge in tourism.
Tourists explored the diverse attractions that Yercaud has to offer, including the picturesque Anna Park, the tranquil Lake Park, the vibrant Rose Garden, the lush Botanical Garden, and the scenic viewpoints of Lady's Seat and Jen's Seat.
The iconic Pakoda Point and the spiritual ambiance of the Servarayan Cave Temple also drew crowds seeking unique experiences.
A highlight of the Yercaud experience, the Yercaud Boathouse, proved to be a hotspot for visitors eager to indulge in a leisurely boat ride amidst the serene
waters.
Despite long queues, tourists patiently awaited their turn, underscoring the allure of this popular attraction.
However, the surge in tourism also posed challenges as the tiny hill station’s infrasture strained. The Yercaud Anna Park traffic circle experienced congestion due to the influx of
vehicles.
Nonetheless, roadside vendors seized the opportunity, enjoying brisk business and contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the town.
As the number of tourists continues to rise, drawn by the refreshing morning coolness and the soothing evening breeze, Yercaud solidifies its reputation as a preferred destination for those seeking respite from the sweltering summer heat.
