In the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP), in Anamalai taluk, Coimbatore district, the water for the first turn irrigation of the lands under the old Ayakattu irrigation areas of Aliyar was released on Thursday by the District Collector Mr. Pavankumar Kiriyappanavar.
The event was attended by Mr. T. Sivakumar, Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Parambikulam Division.
Later, the District Collector Mr. Pawan Kumar told reporters, in the Parambikulam Aliyar project, the Chief Minister has ordered the release of water from the Aliyar dam yesterday, accepting the request of the farmers of the Aliyar.
Accordingly, for the first irrigation of the lands falling under these areas, water will be released for 152 consecutive days from the Aliyar dam from 16.05.2025 to 15.10.2025.
By releasing water not exceeding 1205 million cubic feet per day, 6400 acres of irrigated lands in Anaimalai taluk will get irrigation facilities. Farmers should use this water wisely for agriculture.
The current water level of Aliyar Dam is 74.70 feet. There is enough water in the dam to release water for 152 days.
