Venkaiah Naidu to unveil statue of Karunanidhi

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates late Chief Minister and DMK Chief M.Karunanidhi's statute in Omandurar Government Estate today.On April 26, 2022, Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.K Stalin made several announcements under Rule 110 which included the installation of a statue for Karunanidhi in Omandurar government estate. Underscoring the significance of installing a statute Stalin said Karunanidhi had an unparalleled legacy of being chief minister 5 times for 19 years. He had been present in the state legislative assembly for 60 years by becoming its member for 13 times.Following the announcement of the Chief Minister, the work on the statue installation began in a full swing at a cost of Rs.1.56 crore. 

The 16 feet tall statue reportedly resembles the one at Anna Arivalayam the DMK headquarters. It was sculpted by Sculptor Deenadhayalan in his studio in Minjur. A  stone pathway has been laid for people to walk up to the statue.Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will unveil the statue today at 5.30 pm. After the inauguration of the statue, a special film on the life of Karunanidhi will be shown.  In the function to be presided by the Chief Minister, senior minister Durai Murugan will deliver a welcome speech.

 Dr. V. Iraianbu, Chief Secretary, Tamilnadu will deliver a vote of thanks.  Leaders of the DMK alliance parties will take part.  Chief Minister M.K.Stalin reviewed the arrangements for the function on Friday at the venue. 
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the function, said government sources.
