Three school students killed in van-train collision at cuddalore

A train hit a school vehicle in Chemmanguppam, Cuddalore district on Tuesday  morning. Three students died in the accident. Another student and the van driver have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Cuddalore District Collector Sibi Aditya Senthil Kumar and police officials visited the spot.
While the vehicle was trying to cross the railway gate (gate number 170) in the Cuddalore - Chemmanguppam area it was hit by a passenger train (train number 56813) going from Villupuram to Mayiladuthurai at 7.45 am and dragged it for 50 meters.
Four students and the driver were travelling in the vehicle that was involved in the accident.

In this accident, according to initial reports, two school students, 12-year-old Nivas and 16-year-old Charumathi, have died. Charumathi's injured younger brother Chezhiyan was also taken to JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry for further treatment but he also died.
With this, the death toll of students has increased to 3. Charumathi and Chezhiyan are sister and brother among the deceased.
The seriously injured van driver and the gatekeeper, who was attacked by the public, have been admitted to the Cuddalore Government Hospital.
In this situation, the cause of the accident has been alleged to be the negligence of the gatekeeper Pankaj Kumar. It was initially reported that the accident occurred when the van crossed the tracks because the employee fell asleep without closing the railway gate. This was the initial statement of the railway administration.
Later, the railway administration issued a second statement. It stated that the van driver had forced the gatekeeper to open the gate and the gatekeeper had opened it. There is confusion over the cause of the accident due to the railway's different explanations. The railway administration has admitted that it was a mistake to open the gate even though it was asked to open it.

Overall, there is no doubt that the gatekeeper's negligence was the cause of the accident. Local residents have said that the accident occurred because the gatekeeper fell asleep. Enraged by this, the residents attacked the gatekeeper.
A horrific accident has occurred when a train hit a school van. The school bags of the students in the van were scattered on the tracks, leaving the people there in a state of shock.
In this situation, District Collector Sibi Aditya Senthilkumar conducted an inspection. He said that an investigation will also be conducted to determine whether the gatekeeper's negligence was the cause of the accident, and added that strict action will be taken if there was negligence.
Upon receiving information about the accident, railway officials and police rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. The public also helped.
Train traffic has been disrupted due to the accident. Railway workers are repairing the downed power lines. The vehicle involved in the accident has been removed from the railway tracks.
