Special grievance redressal meeting for transgenders held in Tiruvannamalai

A special grievance redressal and counseling meeting for transgenders was organised at the Tiruvannamalai District Collector's office by the Department of Social Welfare and Women's Rights. District Collector D Bhaskara Pandian presided over the meeting.
The district, home to 183 transgenders, held the event to address their demands, including housing leases and employment opportunities. Transgenders presented their grievances directly to the Collector.
Addressing the upcoming Tirukarthikai Deepam festival, the Collector urged both local and visiting transgenders to cooperate without causing inconvenience to devotees and the general public. He announced that special monitoring teams would be deployed around the temple and the Girivalam path to ensure smooth proceedings during the festival. 
Any disturbances caused by transgenders during the festival would be met with appropriate action, he added.
In a significant move, the Collector distributed transgender identity cards to 10 individuals, aiding them in accessing welfare benefits.
The event was attended by District Revenue Officer Iram Pradeepan, District Social Welfare Officer (In-charge) Saranya, and other government officials.
