Scientific education is must

Scientific education is must

As August 23rd is celebrated as 'National Space Day' across India, BJP MP Anurag Thakur was invited as the special guest at a function held at a school in Himachal Pradesh. Addressing the students, Anurag Thakur asked, "Who was the first person to go into space?" The students answered, "Neil Armstrong."
To this, Anurag Thakur made a controversial comment, saying, “I think Hanuman was the first person to go to space. At this time, I have a request to the school principal and the students. Our thoughts should go beyond textbooks. Our culture is our knowledge.” He not only shared this idea with the school students, but also posted it on his social media page.
It is noteworthy that Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made history by becoming the first human to travel to space in 1961, flying for 108 minutes. The minister should guide students by providing this accurate information.
The BJP MP's speech, which ignored all scientific historical information and attempted to guide students based on myths, has caused controversy across the country.
The Union Education Minister should have immediately refuted the opinion of Anurag Thakur MP. Or should have pointed out the mistake and given instructions. Because this is an act that is destroying the science education of students.
But as always, the voice of opposition is coming from Tamil Nadu. DMK Parliamentary Party leader Kanimozhi has lashed out, saying, “It is regrettable that school students are being misled by telling them myths and making unscientific comments. This action by BJP MP Anurag Thakur is a drag on the academic knowledge of students.”
Similarly, Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan has also quipped on his X social media page, "It is not an ordinary thing for Union Minister Anurag Thakur to find out that Hanuman was the first to go to space. The intellectual activity of the BJP is becoming incredible day by day."
At least the BJP party leadership should ban BJP MPs, MLAs, and administrators from trying to spread such anti-science ideas, especially among students. Promoting religious doctrines is a different matter. There are different places for that.
At the same time, everyone should understand that playing with students' science education can only misguide them and will never help them progress!
