After prime minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the renovated Tiruvannamalai railway station under Amrit Bharat station scheme on Thursday, district collector K Tharpagaraj unveiled the façade of the railway station. The event was attended by MP CN Annadurai, state athletics association vice-president EVV Kamban and others.
The Amrit Bharat station scheme was launched in December 2022. Under the scheme, as many as 1,300 railway stations were planned to be renovated across the country.
Accordingly, Modi inaugurated 103 renovated railway stations across the country, and of which, 13 of them fall under the Tiruchirappalli division of the southern railways.
Tiruvannamalai railway station was renovated at the cost of Rs 8.27 crore. It, now, has additional facilities including a new terminal, waiting halls, PF shelters, festival area, digital facilities, three platforms, renovated concourse, improved station approach road, new toilets, selfie point, booking counters, VIP lounges, parcel office, additional seats, 15-bay platform shelters, facilities for the differently-abled, CCTV surveillance, and trilingual LED
signs. Railway officials Clement, Venkatesan, BJP state general secretary Karthiyayini, district president R Ramesh, advocate wing’s head Kishore Kumar, DMK city secretary Karthik Velmaran and others participated in the event.
