The Madras High Court has ordered the CBI to complete the investigation into the murder of Thiruppuvanam Ajith Kumar in police custody by the 20th of next month.
In this matter, there is no way that any officer would have issued an order to “beat him to death”. He could have instructed to investigate seriously and return the jewel.
But the question is how the police became so fanatical that they beat him to death.
Was there any prior enmity between Ajith Kumar and the police? There can be none. Even if a superior officer ordered it, why did they act so cruelly, putting their humanity at stake?
Similarly, there is no animosity between the police and those being investigated on the basis of a complaint. Yet, hysterical attacks happen. Cruelty like the Sathankulam father and son incident happens. Many incidents that do not lead to death are buried without anyone knowing.
Especially if you say four words against the police, that's all. The pace of the attack will increase. Forgetting that the courts exist to punish, they skip the investigation stage and beat and torture people.
If you take a police inspector or an assistant inspector, he has the mentality that he has a part of a city or a small town with four or five villages under his control. There is no doubt that the mentality of ``It is my duty to protect the people'' has been replaced by the egoistic mentality of ``I am all in all'', which becomes the motivation for such murders. The death of Ajith Kumar in Thiruppuvanam is an example of the same mentality of the police.
At the same time, it cannot be said that the entire police force is like this. There are many officers and police officers who act wisely, considering their duty to the people as their eyes.
Chest size, height, and physical strength are essential for the police. If criminals lose their fear of the police, there will be a slowdown in preventing and reducing crimes. The difficulties faced by the police in identifying criminals should also be considered. At the same time, the Sathankulam and Thiruppuvanam custodial deaths suggest that it is necessary to develop a knowledge-based approach in the police that does not cross boundaries in matters of investigation and investigation.
Psychological changes are needed in the mindset of the police. What can be done for this? The central and state governments should think about it and take steps for it.
Therefore, reforms in the police department are urgently needed!
