First Level Screening of Teas held for TGLIA

The Golden Leaf India Awards- Southern Tea Competition (TGLIA), conceived  by UPASI in collaboration with Tea Board of India, is an annual feature  eagerly looked  forward by the tea fraternity in South India. This competition over the last 18 years helped  immensely to showcase the quality teas of various regions of South India all over the world. 

In a press statement issued by Mr.Arun Kumar, Convener, Organising Committee, TGLIA,      mentioned  that for the 18th edition of TGLIA, 115 entries were received from 32 Estates/Companies from different agro-climatic regions of Nilgiris, Wayanad, Anamallais, Travancore, High Ranges, other minor tea growing regions and from Bought Leaf Factories.

Generated an intense

This  unique event  has generated an intense competition among the 6 growing regions to produce quality teas, Mr.Arun Kumar added. The first  level screening of teas for the 18th   edition was held on 1st April 2023 at UPASI, Coonoor. 

A 5 member panel comprising of  Messrs. Manoj Gangadharan of Tata Consumer Products Ltd, R.Poovandhran of J.Thomas & Co.P.Ltd, K.K.Raghu of Paramount Tea Marketing SI P.Ltd, N.Sriram of Global Tea Auctioneers P.Ltd and Thomas Mathews of Forbes & Co, representing leading packeteers and tea brokers evaluated the teas that had entered the competition The final tasting session and distribution of certificates to the winners will be held in Dubai coinciding the 8th Global Dubai Tea Forum (GDTF) from 25th to 27th April 2023, he adde d.
