The Tamil Nadu Government All Health Nurses Association has demanded that more than four thousand vacant posts of village health nurses across Tamil Nadu be filled immediately with trainees.
The association staged a protest at the Erode District Collectorate today, pressing for various demands. The association's district president Vetriselvi, secretary K Easwari and state administrator Vidya Devi said: The government should avoid involving employees known as Mid Level Health Providers in the vaccination work. Village health nurses will be affected by their involvement. To prevent the increase in maternal and infant mortality, the maternity financial assistance scheme entrusted to the health nurses should be handed over to the social welfare department as it was earlier. Health nurses should be avoided from being involved in computer work instead of serving the people. There is a shortage of hepatatis B vaccine across India. Therefore, the government should take steps to start vaccine production at the vaccine manufacturing center in Chengalpattu.
