Cyber crime against women is the modern adversary of the nation'

The nation, which is rich in heritage and diversity, faced a modern adversary, cyber crime, that targeted the very essence of our identity -- our women, the pillars of our strength. It was imperative to address this threat that tarnished the fabric of our society, said Dr. E. Khalieraaj, Director, National Cyber Security Research Council, while addressing an international conference on 'Global Trends in Crime Against Women,' organised by the State Commission for Women, in Chennai recently.
Dr. Khalieraaj was concerned that the digital arena had become a battleground where the honour and dignity of our mothers, sisters, and daughters was under siege. Cyber predators threatened our collective pride, aiming arrows of harassment, exploitation and abuse towards the soul of our nation—the women, who embody its resilience and grace.
This battle called for our collective resolve and commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of every woman in our nation's digital landscape.
As the frequency of cyber crimes and threats against women continued to rise, it was evident that various forms of malicious activities were targeting individuals who shared personal data online, whether knowingly or unknowingly. It was crucial for online users to take proactive measures to prevent these occurrences. While the government had initiated efforts to enforce laws and penalties, there was a pressing need for widespread awareness of cyber crime and security threats.  For, every cyber crime against a woman was an assault on our values, integrity and sovereignty, he said.
The challenge not only demanded attention but also resolute action. Dr. Khalieraaj said that there was a need to march forward with determination, forging a shield of digital literacy, fortified laws and unwavering support networks to protect women from cyber threats
The collective efforts should illuminate the path towards a future where women walk unafraid in the digital world, where their rights and freedom remained unblemished.
