Coimbatore Collector holds meeting on ban on single-use plastic products

Coimbatore District Collector Krantikumar Padi held a meeting on ban. on single use plastic products at the collectorate on Friday.

 District Environmental Engineer (Coimbatore South) R.Chandrasekaran and Municipal Commissioners, Municipal Officers, and many other Government officials participated in this meeting. 

 Collector informed that  manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of plastic bags,  non-woven plastic bags, plastic coated paper plates, plastic tumblers, thermocol cups, plastic sheets used for wrapping food products, water bags/packets, plastic straws and plastic flags etc. are prohibited. Violating the ban norms is an offence under the law. The shops should be inspected from time to time to see if they are selling banned plastic products and if found, legal action should be taken against them and fines should be imposed as per government rules, he advised
