R.Pappammal, the 105 years old organic farmer who was awarded Padma –Shrirecently and three other women who have done commendable social contributions were honoured at the International Women’s Day function organized jointly by Women’s Studies Centre and Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore.
Dr.Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi is the chief guest of the function talked on women empowerment and the theme of the International Women’s Day is “choose the challenge”, so women should talk up the challenge and prove herself as equal to men.
Dr.Archana Thakur, Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission, New Delhi was the guest of honour of this programme.
Dr.Prof.S.P.Thyagarajan, Chancellor, expressed the importance of women. Women played an important role in the family and in the society.
Dr.PremavathyVijayan, Vice Chancellor spoke on women and her role and expressed her wishes and congratulate the women achievers and the students, alumni.
