Why Coimbatore South constituency? – Kamal Haasan explains

Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM) chief and actor Kamal Haasan is contesting from Coimbatore South Assembly constituency on behalf of the party.

Following this, he arrived in Coimbatore by air today at 2.30 pm and filed his nomination with the Returning Officer Sivasubramaniam at the Central Divisional Office of the Coimbatore Corporation.

He spoke to the press after that. He said that the Election Commission has given him the rare opportunity to do his democratic duty as a party leader. He added, “My electoral strategy is honesty. This honesty that we have will not be found in others.

We depend on our plan and prosperity. Coimbatore is one of the pleasant cities in the country. I have a lot of friends here. I contest here because those responsible for this boom are here. Attempts are being made here to disrupt religious harmony. We will be the voice against it”.

He also said that he will work towards the betterment of Coimbatore the reputation of the city as being the ‘Manchester of South India’ does not tarnish. He also alleged that basic facilities had not been provided in the Coimbatore South constituency and there are many other issues as well.

He also added that the necessary airport expansion to the Coimbatore region and the Metro project, are not being executed. He further said that this constituency could be elevated to set an example for others. “No one would call me an outsider,” he said, “I am a Tamilian and I have friends and relatives here as well”.

He said that his party has planned to carry out its electoral campaign with Coimbatore as the fulcrum. He then said, “Politics is not our profession rather it is our duty”.
