Villagers stage road roko against forest dept

Erode
Tension erupted as the public staged a road blockade condemning the forest department for not taking any action despite reports that mysterious animals were roaming in the village near Bhavani.

On April 9, dogs bit 11 sheeps in Nallipalayam village, Jambai, next to Bhavani and 12 sheeps and goats in nearby village, Durusampalayam. Many died in the incidents.

Following this, the forest department inspected the scene and reported that the goats died due to dog bites. As a result, local youths were on patrol at night to catch sheep biting dogs.

At that time, the youth who saw the movement of the mysterious animals, informed the forest department to take action.

But the forest department is said to have taken no action.

Disappointed by this, the public from Nallipalayam and Thurusampalayam staged a sit-in protest on Saturday near the Nallipalayam section of the Bhavani-Anthiyur road, blocking vehicular traffic.

Following this, Bhavani police and Anthiyur forest officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesting public.

Subsequently, the forest department has been conducting surveys in areas where the public has reported the presence of mysterious animals.
