VC felicitated in his native village


New Vice Chancellor of Gandhigram Rural University S Matheswaran was felicitated in his native Gugalur village, near Gobi.

His friends organized the meeting and shared old events in honour of the VC.

S. Madheswaran (58), son of Kuttiyappan-Alamelu couple of Gugalur.

Madheswaran’s father, Kuttiyappan, is a retired teacher at the Gandhi Educational Institute in Gugalur.

Matheswaran studied from class 1 to class 6 at the present Government Middle School, Gulagalur, and from class 6 to class 12 at the Gandhi HSS, Gugalur.

Following this, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Vasavi College, Bhavani, his Masters Degree from Erode CN College and his Doctorate from Anna University, Chennai.

Madheswaran is a renowned economist and served as a Professor and Director of the Center for Research on Social and Economic Change in Bangalore for the past 30 years.

He was a member of the Planning Commission of the Government of Karnataka and compiled the Economic Survey of the State of Karnataka during 2010-14.

He is the Co-Coordinator for the 12th Annual Plan Design and Youth Development Report of the State of Karnataka, the Advisor to the Chief Electoral Officer of the State of Karnataka and the Chairman of the Steering Committee on the Development and Youth Status Report 2017 of the Government of India.

He has conducted various studies focusing on education, labour economics and ecology.

His books have been published by international publishers.

It is noteworthy that the results of more than 100 research articles written by him revised the policy decisions of the Central and State Governments.

He has received the Kempegowda Award, one of the highest awards of the Government of Karnataka.

He is also the recipient of the South Asian Association for Development and Ecological Economics Award.

Moreover, he is recognized as a Distinguished Educator at a prestigious university in Germany.

In this context, he was appointed as the new VC by the Chancellor of the varsity KM Annamalai, as per the recommendation of the Central Higher Education Department, last week.

Following this, his friends arranged the function in which his friends Muthusamy, correspondent of Gandhi Education Center Dr Thillainathan, teacher Villavan, singer Ravi, the headmistress of Gugalur govt HSS Ramarani, Police Inspector Thavamani and many others including relatives and friends attended.
