COVID-19 vaccination for 18 to 44 years age group persons was inaugurated in Salem on Monday by V.Senthil Balaji, Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise at the Primary Health Centre in Kannankurichi.
The district had received 42,800 Covishield and 6400 Covaxine vaccine stocks last week. Vaccination for persons in the age group 18-44 commenced on Monday following guidelines from the government. As many as 15 lakh persons in the district in the age group 18-44 will receive the vaccine said officials.
First line workers including news agents, milk sellers, E-service centre workers, pharmacists, auto and taxi drivers, electricity board field workers, Panchayat workers, state government transport employees, school teachers, volunteers, NGO staff and temporoary workers engaged in work in containment zones will receive the vaccines first.
According to officials so far 2,93,721 persons have been vaccinated in the 1 st phase and 1,13,368 persons in the second phase in Salem District.

R.Rajenderan, MLA, Salem North Constituency, Dr. Subramaniam, Dr. Selvakumar, Deputy Director, District T.B Officer Dr.V.Vijayalakshmanan, Dr.N.Sowmiya, Medical Officer, Primary Health Centre, Kannankurichi.
