Two tractors carrying illegal sand to seized in Thadagam

Coimbatore North Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Sivagurunathan on Wednesday confiscated three tractors for smuggling illegally cut sand to brick kilns operating in the Thadagam area in Coimbatore.

Authorities conducted a vehicle check after a social activist reported the sand smuggling to Coimbatore North RDO and revenue officials. During the raid, officers confiscated three tractors. Further, RDO Sivagurunathan, who did not specify the owners of the seized tractors, said that the seized vehicles were fined.

In this context, Deputy Secretary to the Government MA Ramachandran insisted the Additional Chief Secretary and Transport Commissioner of Tamil Nadu to take necessary action against the culprits indulging in the misuse of tractors and lorries.

Earlier last month, authorities seized a lorry during a raid after a two-judge bench in the Madras High Court, ordered the immediate closure of illegal brick kilns in Thadagam and adjoining areas. It is noteworthy that illegal brick kilns are still operating even after the High Court order.
