Two Coimbatore students bag gold in athletics

Two students from the Coimbatore district have won gold in the athletic tournament held at Kathmandu in Nepal in 5000 meter-relay and discus throw respectively.

The tournament was held on behalf of Pokhara in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Athletes from countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka participated in it.

A team of 130 from India participated in various competitions.

Poonkothai, daughter of Chandrasekaran and Ramuthai from Sulurpattanam, Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu won the women’s 5,000 m relay.

She crossed the race goal in 24 minutes. She is a 3rd year BSc Biotechnology student at SNMV College.

Meanwhile, Darshan from the same village won the gold medal in the men’s discus throw by throwing at a distance of 40 meters.

Darshan is studying 9th standard in Venkatalakshmi High School.

Both are being trained at the Subramania Bharathi Sports Club in Coimbatore.
