Tourists banned from Hogenakkal as water level rises

The water inflow to Hogenakkal has risen due to floods caused by heavy rains. The water level in the Hogenakkal Cauvery river next to Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district has risen to 48000 cubic feet as against 25000 cubic feet as of yesterday evening.

Thus, the district administration has banned people from coracles rides and from bathing. Hogenakkal and surrounding areas including Natrapalayam, Hogenakkal forest, Keraiti, Anchetti and Pilikundu received 85 mm of rain in a single day yesterday. Thus, the water level has risen sharply.

Due to the floods, the water in the Main Falls, Cine Falls, Ivarpani and Ainthar Falls in Hogenakkal has turned into ‘red’ waterfalls. It is noteworthy that the ban was again imposed within 24 hours of granting permission for tourists.
