The DMK, in its election manifesto, announced that a corona relief fund of Rs 4,000 would be provided to ration card holders holding rice cards.
It was announced that the project would be implemented from June 3. When MK Stalin took over as chief minister, he ordered distribution of the first instalment of Rs 2,000 by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, a full curfew has been imposed for 14 days from today.
Authorities were ordered to immediately provide the first corona relief amount of Rs 2,000 starting today, to help ensure that people’s livelihoods are not affected during the curfew.
Out of 1,152 ration shops in Erode district, 7 lakh and 13,910 ration cards will be issued Rs 2,000 each.
The ration shops will be open during the curfew from 8 am to 12 noon.
It was decided to provide relief in the form of tokens in order to avoid crowds as the infection is currently spreading high.
Accordingly, from today till the 12th, the employees of the ration shops have started distributing tokens to the family card holders.
It will indicate the date of receipt of the amount. A relief amount of Rs. 2000 will be given from May 15 after the completion of the token distribution work, officials said.
