TNPCB ordered disconnection of power supply of tannery CETP at SIPCOT, Perundurai.
In a release, the TNPCB said ”Tannery Common Effluent Treatment Plant, M/s. Perundurai Leather Industries Eco-Security Pvt Ltd and its member tannery units located at SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre, Perundurai, Erode District, are not functioning since March 2020 to carry out maintenance and upgradation works as directed by the TNPC Board.
Based on a public complaint received on 18.04.2021 morning regarding the discharge of effluent by the tannery CETP outside its premises, the tannery CETP was inspected by the TNPCB officials immediately.
During inspection, it was observed that the tannery CETP has discharged effluent from its tank into the adjacent defunct Oxidation Pond meant for the disposal of sewage generated from SIPCOT industries.
In this connection, Show cause Notice was issued to the tannery CETP. Further, a petition was also received by this office from M/s. Perundurai SIPCOT Affected People Welfare Association on 19.04.2021 requesting further action against the said tannery CETP.
After getting the reply from the tannery CETP for the Show Cause Notice, Report was submitted to the Corporate Office, TNPCB, Chennai recommending further action against the said tannery CETP.
Based on it, the Chairman, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has issued Direction for Closure and Disconnection of Power Supply to the tannery CETP, M/s. Perundurai Leather Industries Eco-Security Pvt Ltd.
The order was communicated to the Superintending Engineer, TANGEDCO, Erode Electricity Distribution Circle for disconnecting the power supply of the said tannery CET,” it added.
