TNAU Scientists get State Scientist Awards

COIMBATORE
In an award function organized at the Science City, Chennai Dr.U.Sivakumar and Dr.P.MuraliArthanari have been bestowed with Senior and Young Scientist Awards, respectively under the category of Agricultural Sciences.

Science city is an autonomous organisation of the Government of Tamil Nadu functioning under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education.

Every year, the Science City is identifying and honouring various scientists who have contributed immensely in the respective field are honoured with awards.


Dr.U.Sivakumar, Professor of Agricultural Microbiology is renowned scientist in the sphere of lignocellulose biomass valorization and Plant-Microbe interactions as evidenced through the technologies developed by way of his patents (US and Indian-4) and publications (105).

He received his post-doctoral training and served as a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Florida, USA. Presently, he is working as Adjunct Professor at the University of Tokyo, Japan.


As a collaborative activity he also visited University of Warwick, UK; University of Wageningen, The Netherlands; Boreskow Institute of Catalysis, Russia; AVRDC, Taiwan; Academia Sinica, Taiwan; University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka; and Laos PDR.

To his laurel, he has generated considerable funds to a tune of Rs. 906 lakhs through various funding agencies DBT, ICAR, DST and MHRD-FAST.Dr.P.MuraliArthanari, Associate Professor (Agronomy) and Public Relations Officer of TNAU is honoured with Tamil Nadu Young Scientist Award and cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-.

His area of specialization is weed science.


He has developed Integrated Weed Management Technology for rice, maize, sunflower and cotton.

He has published more than 55 papers at peer reviewed journals.

He has presented his weed sicence research work at International weed science congress at China, Czech republic, Vietnam, Malaysia and Japan.
