The government of Tamil Nadu had announced a curfew during the night, from 10 pm to 4 am, beginning from April 20.
The government had also announced a complete lockdown on Sundays. Abiding by the National Disaster Management Act, the Government of Tamil Nadu has on Sunday announced the new set of guidelines amidst a severe surge of COVID 19 cases in the state.
Considering the present situation of the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the state had earlier announced a lockdown with various relaxations. The news announcements were made following the consultation chaired by the Chief Minister. The new guidelines are to be put in place across the state from April 20.
Night Curfew from 10 pm to 4 am Night curfew will be imposed throughout the state from 10 pm to 4 am and all public/private transport including buses, autos, taxis and all other vehicle movements will not be permitted. This night curfew will stand good for all the transport services to the other state as well. But relaxations are given to the emergency healthcare services, auto and taxi services are allowed for those who want to reach the railway stations and airports during the night.
Likewise, the transit of certain essential goods such as daily newspapers, milk, petrol and diesel, LPG, medical equipment, ambulance services, goods to medical laboratories will be permitted during the stipulated night curfew time. Journalists are also free to travel during the night. Petrol bunks are also free to function continuously. Continuous Processing Industries that demand seamless functioning for the manufacturing of essential goods are free to function during the night. The employees of such firms including those who perform night shifts are allowed to travel provided they carry with them their identity cards/permission letters.
Complete shutdown on Sundays There will be a complete shutdown on Sundays throughout the state. This shutdown is good to go with meat outlets, fish markets, vegetable markets, retail shops, cinema theatres, shopping malls and all other shops. Similar relaxations said above for the night curfew will apply for the Sunday lockdown as well. All the emergency services and essential goods including the transit of farm produce will be allowed on Sundays.
Parcel services will alone be permitted from 6 am to 10 am, 12 noon to 3 pm, and 6 pm to 9 pm on Sundays. Swiggy, Zomato and other food delivery services are allowed during the above-said timings on Sundays while other e-commerce delivery services are not permitted. Journalists and media employees are permitted to work on Sundays. Only 100 people for weddings and 50 people for death-related ceremonies are permitted on all days including Sundays.
General: The board exams for the Class 12 students are postponed in Tamil Nadu. The IT companies are allowed to function with 50% of employees. Colleges and Universities are advised to conduct online classes. Other coaching centres and summer camps are also permitted only to conduct online classes.
Tourists banned from entering hill stations like the Nilgris, Kodaikanal and Yercaud. Private hospitals with the required infrastructure can join hands with consenting hotels to operate Covid care centres. Other guests will not be permitted to stay in such hotels. Action to be taken against the owners of wedding halls, cinema theatres, restaurants and teashops that failed to adhere and implement Covid restrictions in force.
