Gunasekaran.N alias Padappai Guna, a famous rowdy from Madhuramangalam area of Kanchipuram district, who has been booked in 42 cases of conspiracy, assault, murder, attempted murder and kidnapping in Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur. Police are taking serious action to arrest Guna, who is currently in hiding.
Police team led by Additional SP Velladurai arrested and interrogated his wife Ellammal on January 9th while Guna was in hiding. Meanwhile, Guna’s wife Ellammal has filed a case in the Madras High Court.
In the petition, she had stated that ‘her husband should not be encountered by the police’. In the explanation given by the police in this regard, they said, “There is no plan to encounter Guna.” The police assured him that he would be treated according to police rules if he surrendered.
In this case, three police personnel including Kanchipuram All Women’s Police Station Inspector Maheshwari, Manimangalam Police Inspector Balaji, Sriperumbudur Police Inspector Rajangam have been transferred by DGP Sylendra Babu as they acted in support of the accused. In addition to the police inspectors, the DGP’s office has ordered the immediate transfer of 40 personnel, including 8 constables, 15 Head Constables, 4 Sub inspectors and 3 Inspectors, who assisted the A-plus level rowdy in various ways.
Kanchipuram SI Ashok Chakraborty has been transferred to Ramanathapuram district and Walajabad police station SI L Venkatesh and SV Chatram SI Vijayakanth have been shifted to Virudhunagar district.
It is noteworthy that all the 40 personnel transferred were shifted to distant districts of Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram.
The move by DGP Sylendra Babu has caused a stir among the police department. At the same time they are relaxed that the action has stopped with the transfer order. This is considered a warning bell for the police who make mistakes to the extent of having a relationship with the rowdies.
The DGP has given an opportunity to the people to leave the illegal work like guarding the rowdies and only do the job of guarding. Shouldn’t the entire police force be tarnished by the mistakes of a few?
The public is applauding the action taken by the DGP. The general public is of the opinion that this measure is not enough and that at least a suspension should have taken place. It is a warning sign and next time it might also happen perhaps!
