Stability of new TNHB buildings under study

With the help of IIT and Anna University experts, the structural stability of the newly constructed TNHB buildings during the previous AIADMK rule is being studied, said Housing Minister S Muthusamy.

Inaugurating Kasipalayam sewage canal desilting work in Erode on Monday, he said that some defects in providing basic amenities were found in the buildings though major structural defects were not yet found. Studies however was on to find corrupt activities and after collecting concrete evidence, it would be made public.

The TNHB houses were built by the state government grant of Rs 6-7 lakh and some grant of the Centre. So, 10 per cent (Rs 1.25 to 1.50 lakh) of the cost of house was alone sought from the allottees.

As they were not able to pay it and get allotment, step would be taken to arrange bank loans to help poor to remit their dues. However, no housesite pattas would be given to those living on water courses as per the SC order. So, such families would be given houses in other places in the district.

Around 85 differently abled persons were given housesite pattas near Chithodu, Erode by previous rule. As it was in rocky terrain area, it was planned to use explosives to level the land.

But such action would damage the TNSCB houses constructed there. So, they would be given sites in some other places. Similarly, steps would be taken to give sites for the diffables in other taluks also.

As per the CM order, the mass cleaning work was started in all areas to avert stagnation of rain water in public places.
Efforts are on to carry out 85 development works including creation of new bus stands at Solar, Arachalur and Ganiravutharkulam in the district in phased manner, he assured. Collector H Krishnaunni and corporations Commissioner Dr Elangovan were present.
