The Union health ministry said on Thursday that 50 % of the country’s population is not wearing a mask.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took to its official Twitter handle where it shared an update about the Covid-19 situation in India. The ministry cited a statement on facial masks is based on a survey carried out by the health ministry in 25 cities, which involved 2,000 respondents.
According to the survey, of the 50% of people who do not wear masks, 64% cover the mouth but not the nose, 20% have it on the chin and two per cent on the neck. Only 14% of people wear the mask correctly, said the survey, which covers the nose, mouth, chin and with a clip on the nose. At the media briefing, Joint Secretary of Health ministry Lav Agarwal said that eight states have more than 1 lakh active cases of Covid-19, nine states have 50,000 to 1 lakh active cases and 19 states have less than 50,000 active cases of the infection.
“Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Jharkhand are 10 states where a decline in cases and decline in positivity in the last 3 weeks have been observed,” he added. Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram are states showing a rise in cases and a rise in positivity in the last three weeks, he said.
