Security measures to be tightened in schools: Minister Anbil Mahesh

The government is forced to raise security in schools to prevent sexual offences, Education Minister Anbil Mahesh said, while he added that a decision will be taken soon on setting up CCTV cameras for this purpose.

Complaints of sexual harassment of students are increasing day by day. Female students are increasingly being harassed by teachers and sports coaches in the recent past. There have also been shocking incidents in which many students have ended their lives.

In this situation, Minister Anbil Mahesh told reporters, “School students are having some problems. We have a responsibility to ensure the safety of students in schools. Surveillance cameras must be fitted in girls’ schools. Not all teachers can be blamed for a teacher engaging in such brutal crimes.

The issue started with Rajagopalan in Chennai and extended to Mithun Chakraborty, a Coimbatore school teacher. Thus the Government of Tamil Nadu is compelled to increase security in schools. If students in private schools file a sexual abuse complaint, it should be brought to the attention of the department immediately.

That is what gives the school a reputation. The reputation of the school will not be tarnished except that it will increase the confidence of the parents in the school that the school will take action if there is a crisis for the students. On the contrary, it is absolutely wrong to cover it up”.Thus he said.
