Knowing the fertility of soil is must to cut the cost of fertilizer application and get high yield.
Erode District Joint Director of Agriculture C Chinnasamy said that if the soil fertility is known and fertilized accordingly, the cost of fertilizer can be reduced and higher yields can be obtained.
He inaugurated the soil collection camp at Gobichettipalayam, Erode District and provided information on soil collection to field workers.
He then went directly to the farmers’ villages through the mobile soil testing station and inspected the collected soil samples.
The target is to collect and test 100 soil samples in each revenue village allotted to all Assistant Agricultural Officers in 14 blocks in Erode district.
Based on this, 8010 soil samples have been targeted in Erode district and tested at the Soil Testing Station and arrangements have been made to issue soil testing cards to the farmers.
The farmer has pay Rs 20 as inspection fee and test their soil samples, get a soil card, and apply fertilize accordingly.
It would reduce the cost of fertilizer application and get higher yields, he advised.
