Rs 65 lakh worth gudkha seized

Police arrested 3 persons for smuggling gudkha packets, worth Rs 65 lakh, by concealing it under the maize bags in a lorry, at Bannari check post on Friday.

Following information about the smuggling of the contraband from Karnataka, Sathy police inspector Mohanraj conducted vehicle check and intercepted the lorry which was going to Palladam from Hanur, near Kollegal in Karnataka.

The police arrested lorry owner Suyambulingam 52 of Palladam, cleaner Ramesh 30 of Keezhkunda and driver Kandaraj 38 of Samrajnagar, Karnataka.

Detained under Goondas Act: Following an order from the collector C Kathiravan and recommendation of SP Thangadurai, the Perundurai police detained Jayakumar Anthony 43 of Ilayankudi, Sivaganga district, under the Goondas Act. He stayed at Perundurai and stole motor cycles at Kanchikoil and Chennimalai areas for the past 6 months. So, police already arrested him and lodged in the Coimbatore prison.
