Rs. 2.40 lakh worth of rice brought without proper documents in Tirupur were confiscated during the vehicle check by election officials.
In the run-up to the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, flying squads are conducting intensive vehicle checks across the state.
As part of this, the flying squad was engaged in a vehicle check near the SAP signal on the Tirupur-Avinashi road. They stopped and checked the Eicher type tempo that came through.
A total of 445 bags of rice worth Rs 2.40 lakh were brought in 25,10 and 5 kg bags and after distribution, 252 bags were found in the vehicle.
Further interrogation revealed that they were taken without proper documentation.
Following this, the authorities confiscated the tempo with the rice bags and parked it at the Tirupur North Sub-Collector’s office premises.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the rice bags were taken from the Vijayakumar rice mill on the Tirupur-Dharapuram road, Pollikalipalayam for distribution.
