Following completion of TN Assembly poll peacefully on Tuesday, EC relaxed model code of conduct (MCC) and withdrew restrictions on carrying cash and jewels by public.
Before polling, Election Flying Squads conducted vehicle checks round the clock to check carrying of cash or kind above Rs 50000 without documents.
In all 8 assembly constituencies in Erode district, Rs. 2.31 cr cash of 128 persons was confiscated and Rs 1.58 cr of 77 persons was returned to the public who showed relevant documents.
The remaining Rs 72.76 lakh of 51 persons was deposited in the treasury.
After the election, the flying squads’ vehicle check was cancelled and restrictions on cash withdrawals from banks and carrying cash and valuables were removed, ensuring great relief to traders whose business was totally hit due to severe restrictions made under the MCC.
