Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II and a prominent personality in the British royal family for many years, has died at the age of 99, at the Buckingham Palace on Friday.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the palace said in a statement.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss,” the statement added. Philip, who was by the queen’s side for nearly eight decades, retired from public duties in 2017 at the age of 96.
