Federation of Tamil Nadu Power Loom Associations pleaded to the CM to allow loom owners to remit power tariff for April-May in 3 instalments. Its PRO Kandavel said more than 8 lakh generators across Tamil Nadu were not functioning voluntarily due to curfew order.
Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Karur, Salem, and Namakkal districts in the western Kongu region have two-third of powerloom in Tamil Nadu.We are going to run power looms, only if the government allows it.
We operate our looms as per the guidelines of the government due to the high incidence of infections. Now, non functioning of looms affected the economy of the loom owners and the livelihood of the workers.
In this situation, the government insisted remittance of power tariff for last April and May, before 15th of current month by calculating electricity consumption in the units.
But at present the power looms are not in operation and sell textiles in north Indian states including Mumbai and Delhi.
The payment was not received for clothes sold before the curfew order.
Further 50 per cent of the loom owners are weaving on wage basis and they are not currently being paid properly, by those who placed cloth production order already.
Therefore, we humbly request you to issue an order to calculate the electricity bill of the power loom units for the month of April and May and remit it into 3 instalments without any penalty.
