The forest department arrested a deer hunter in the Chennampatti forest with a country gun.
When the foresters led by forest ranger Senkottayan were on patrol in the foothills of the Chennampatti forest near Ammapettai in Erode district, they caught Matheson ( 50), son of Kurunathan, of Lakkampatti village near Mettur in Salem district.
During interrogation, he told them that a deer had been hunted by a country gun 3 days back and its meat had been dried and sold.
Arrest-deer meat confiscated He also admitted that he had stockpiled teak wood in the same area for the past 3 months and had come to pick it up. The forest department arrested him in this connection.
From him, a country gun used to hunt deer, dried deer meat, deer legs grilled in fire, and 6 pieces of chopped teak wood, sickles were seized from him. Following this, Madhesan was fined Rs. 1 lakh on the orders of the District Forest Officer.
