Daily wage workers, including cleanliness workers, hired by self-help groups in Erode Corporation, were not paid till date.
Only those working in the Corporation’s 3rd Zone were paid yesterday, said AITUC district secretary S Chinnasamy.
In a petition to Corporation Commissioner, he said that it is by no means acceptable that the permanent employees of the corporation are paid the May month’s salary at the beginning of the month, while the daily wage workers are not paid for more than ten days.
This is causing great hardship to the workers and their families. It is also a matter of great concern that delays in the payment of salaries to frontline staff who have been working regardless of life during the corona curfew.
Therefore, the Commissioner should intervene immediately and take appropriate action to pay the wages without delay and disburse wages for both permanent and casual laborers on the same day hereafter, he pleaded.
