More than 1,000 workers went home anxiously in Erode as more than 3,000 square feet of shops, business houses, textile firms etc were closed as a precautionary measure against the spread of corona.
The government yesterday ordered the closure of more than 3,000 square feet of business firms, following a series of curfews, including night curfews and Sunday curfews.
Accordingly, many firms, including more than 30 textile shops, were closed in ErodeTVS, Eeswaran Kovil, Prakasam streets, Banian Markets in Gandhiji Road, RKV Road etc.
As usual, yesterday morning, many women and men, who came to work at 8 am, were waiting in front of the shops.
The shop owners and executives came and asked the corporation officials for details and did not open the shop.
However, the workers waited until 11:00 a.m., as word came that a re-order was coming and that the shop owners could go to meet with the authorities.
After 11:00 a.m, the shopkeepers left with announcing that ‘the shops would not be open.
So, the workers went home with great anxiety.
