Need for conserving Nilgiris watershed stressed

COIMBATORE
Experts in various domains called for the conservation and protection of Nilgiris eco-system which is considered as an overhead water tank for the surrounding districts at the World Water Day function on March 22 celebrated by ICAR –IISWC, RC, Udhagamandalam celebrated with the theme “Valuing water,”


Dr V Kasthuri Thilagam welcomed the gathering and briefed the event.

In his speech, he emphasized the contribution of natural shola forest in water resource generation.

Inaugurating the function Mr. Raju, District President, Tamil Nadu Science Forum called on the students to conserve the water and forest to protect our environment.

If forest and water resources in Nilgiris is conserved, then only these surrounding districts will get the water he said.

In his presidential address, Dr. K. Kannan, Acting Head, said water is a sacred natural resource and have to be conserved and utilised effectively.

Dr. S Manivannan, Principal Scientist and Organising Secretary who delivered an address on the world water day 2021 spoke about the importance of water and the ways to conserve it.

Dr. H.C. Hombe Gowda gave the vote of thanks.

About 60 participants, including farmers, students of Government Arts College students and JSS International School participated in the world water day celebration.
