The candidate list for the Congress party was announced on Tuesday for 14 Assembly seats ahead of the elections.
It is noteworthy that the list did not contain the name of the former chief minister V Narayanasamy. Polling for 30 assembly seats in Puducherry will be held on April 6. Of the 30 assembly seats, five are reserved for the Scheduled Caste candidates.
Narayanasamy led government had resigned on February 22 ahead of a floor test in the 33-member House (including three nominated) following the resignations of five Congress and one Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLAs.
On February 23, President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the resignation of Narayanasamy and his council of ministers. Prior to that, on February 16 Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Puducherry Kiran Bedi was removed from her post and Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan was given the additional charge as LG of Puducherry.
In such a crucial political climate, the decision of Congress to not include Narayanasamy in their candidate list have created a fuss in the Union Territory.
