Muslim organisations seek permission to conduct Ramzan prayers

The members of Sunnat Jamat met Coimbatore District Collector Nagarajan and filed a petition seeking permission to hold special prayers during the month of Ramzan.

On behalf of the Coimbatore District Sunnat Jamat Federation, more than 10 people led by General Secretary Hidayathullah filed a petition at the Coimbatore District Collector’s Office on Monday. According to the petition, it is ensured that all those who come to the mosque wear face masks, maintain social distancing and perform prayers, and follow strict control guidelines such as testing for fever.

“In this context, the Tamil Nadu government has issued a statement today denying permission for worship, in the name of pandemic control measures. This comes as a great shock to Muslims. The month of Ramzan in particular is a special month for Muslims.

Therefore, in view of the sentiments of Muslims, the Government of Tamil Nadu should immediately withdraw this notification. Muslims should be allowed to go to places of worship and perform prayers” the petition read.
