How to rescue passengers traveling by train in case of an accident? In this connection, a mock drill was held at the Erode Railway Station on Wednesday to create awareness among public on security aspects.
The rehearsal took place as two train carriages were overturned on the tracks at the Erode workshop and some of them were trapped and the rescue team rescued them alive with the help of modern machinery.
Rescue teams were called in from Arakkonam for this. Passengers trapped inside the wreckage of the overturned train cried in hoarse.
Rescue crews then drilled the train with state-of-the-art machinery and rescued the wounded passengers by pressing the window bars.
They are then taken to a medical team ready there. The rescue squad rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Salem Divisional Assistant Manager Annathurai inspected the programme. A large number of policemen, including Erode Railway Police Inspector Senthilkumar and Sub-Inspector Rajendran, and Railway Department officials were present.
