Vice president of Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM) Dr R Mahendran has on Friday said that the party chief Kamal Haasan and himself are contesting in the same district to make Coimbatore a corruption-free district.

Samathuva Makkal Katchi and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi in the MNM led alliance have already been allotted 40 seats each ahead of the Assembly elections.

MNM supremo Kamal Haasan on Wednesday announced the first list of candidates for 70 constituencies.

Following this, the second list of candidates to contest on behalf of the MNM was released on Friday.

It was also announced that Kamal Haasan is contesting from the Coimbatore South constituency.

The party’s vice-president Mahendran is contesting from the Singanallur assembly constituency.

Speaking to reporters, Mahendran said that the only reason Kamal Haasan and himself were contesting in the same district was to eradicate corruption in Coimbatore.
