Mavalli herbal root smuggler fined

Erode Murugesan who was driving a van from Thamburetti area near Tamaraikkarai next to Anthiyur in Erode district with Mavalli herbal roots, was fined by Rs 50000.


He has been smuggling it from Bargur forest in his van for sale.


Forest ranger Duraisamy who was on duty at the Anthiyur Varattuppallam check post, stopped the van.

It was then revealed that four bundles of dried roots weighing about 50 kg were smuggled for sale.

Consequently Murugesan was arrested and fined Rs 50,000 on the orders of District Forest Officer Wismiju Viswanathan.


The tuber is said to have been dug up from the hills, including Bargur, for food and medicinal purposes and bought by traders for large sums.
