A South African court has sentenced Mahatma Gandhi’s great granddaughter to seven years imprisonment in a money laundering case on Tuesday.
The convict Ashish Lata Ramgobin(56) is Mahatma Gandhi’s great-granddaughter. She has been prosecuted in Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Durban, South Africa since 2015 on charges of embezzling about 6.2 million rand (Rs 3.22 crore) and filing forged documents.
Now during the hearing today, the South African court found her guilty and she was sentenced to 7 years in prison. It is noteworthy that she refused to appeal against the sentence.
