Kodumanal excavation suspended

Erode May 11:
Excavations at Kodumanal in Erode district by the State Archaeological department have been suspended due to a complete knockdown.

The 10th excavation work was being carried out by the department at Kodumanal and Noyyal riverside near Chennimalai in Erode district from February 27 under the direction of J. Ranjith, the excavation project director.

Various data such as dwellings, utensils, coins, earthenware tiles, and references are available here for people who lived 2,400 years ago.

More than 30 people have been digging the pits, planning to continue the excavations until June or July.

In this situation, a complete general freeze has been declared from May 10 to 24 as a precautionary measure against the spread of corona. As a result, excavations have been suspended.

Although the excavations have been halted, the camp staff is busy documenting the rare finds and writing notes.
