K P Munusamy and R Vaithilingam of AIADMK, who have been elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly had on Monday resigned their membership in the Upper House of Parliament and their resignations were forwarded to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
They will be taking their oath of office as MLAs in the assembly session today. K P Munusamy contested and won from the Veppanahalli constituency in the Krishnagiri district while R Vaithiyalingam won from the Orathanadu constituency in Thanjavur district.
From Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK currently has seven MPs in the Rajya Sabha including the two leaders who have now resigned. Their resignations have been forwarded to the RS Secretariat, party sources told PTI. A lot of speculations were drawn before their decision whether they would resign their positions of MP or MLA.
In the recent Assembly elections, the AIADMK alliance has won 75 seats while ADMK has won 66 seats individually. After a long tussle, former chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy has been chosen as the leader of the opposition on behalf of the party. While the pro-tem Speaker K Pichandi was sworn in on Monday, the Assembly is set to meet today(May 11). All the 234 MLAs will be administered the oath of office by the pro-tem Speaker.
