Justice NV Ramana has been appointed the next Chief Justice Of India (CJI) by the President of India on Tuesday. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice today.
He will take over as the 48th Chief Justice of India on April 24. Earlier, CJI SA Bobde had recommended Justice NV Ramana as his successor after he retires. In a letter to the Central government, the CJI had given the name of senior-most Supreme Court Judge Justice NV Ramana to be appointed as the next CJI.
CJI SA Bobde is due to retire on April 23. Justice Ramana, who hails from Andhra Pradesh had held various positions in the judiciary including the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and the acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. He has also served as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy.
