Journalist jailed for 11 years

Danny, the editor-in-chief of the online magazine Frontier Myanmar, was arrested last May by the military regime. He has been charged with spreading false information, inciting violence, associating with illegal organizations, and fraudulent immigration clearance.


The court sentenced Danny to 11 years in prison at the end of the trial. The military overthrew a popularly elected government in Myanmar in February, citing allegations of vote-rigging in the November general election.

Key leaders, including the state’s chief adviser Aang-San-Syuki and President Win Myint, were arrested. Security forces cracked down on protests across the country.

More than 1,000 are said to have died. Repression of the Myanmar media was unleashed as part of a crackdown on the struggle. Several journalists were arrested and prosecuted. A Myanmar court has sentenced Danny fenster to 11 years in prison.

He has been released following strong condemnation from the USA. The arrest and sentencing of neutral journalists is a false precedent.
