Human chain rally held to create awareness on glaucoma

The Erode Eye Foundation Eye Hospital and Sri Vasavi College, Erode, today jointly held a human chain rally at Erode in connection with the world glaucoma week celebration to create awareness among public on the eye disease.


It was inaugurated by Dr. Murugan, President, Erode Medical Center.

Eye Foundation Eye Hospital Senior Dr. Mohammad Faisal and Specialist Dr. Vijayakumar.

More than 200 students of Sri Vasavi College were present. According to Dr. Mohammed Faisal, the number of people with glaucoma worldwide in 2013 was 64.3 million and 80 million by 2020.

By 2040, it is likely to rise to 111.8 million. More than 90 percent of the affected are unaware of the disease.

Early detection and treatment can prevent vision loss.

Most people over the age of 40 are affected by this disease.

Thus, it is necessary for people over 40 years of age to get an eye examination once a year.

Erode Eye Foundation Eye Hospital will provide free eye examination and counseling throughout March for the benefit of the public, he said.
