Election flying squads seized Rs 20 lakh from 4 persons for not possessing proper documents during a vehicle check in Erode and Perundurai area.
The Code of Conduct for Elections is in force ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Thus, it is prohibited to carry more than Rs. 50,000 without proper documentation.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up Election Flying squads, static surveillance teams and video surveillance teams to monitor election process.
The teams have been engaged in intensive vehicle testing at various locations to check distribution of cash and kind to voters during election time.
In this situation, a flying squad conducted vehicle check near Thindal, Erode in the Erode West Assembly constituency last night.
The squad then stopped a car that came in that area and found that the inmates of the car had Rs 80,000 without proper document.
Thus Rs.80 thousand was confiscated from them.
The investigation revealed that the driver of the car was Shanmugam, an engineer from the Erode Railway Colony area.
The confiscated money was handed over to Saibuddin, the Erode West constituency election officer and RDO.
Similarly, Rs. 68,000 taken without proper document by Sathees, a poultry trader on Erode-Chithodu Naal Road, was seized and handed over to the RDO.
In another incident, Rs 50000 was seized from an engineer Suresh of Anumanpalli.
In yet another incident, Election Flying squad officers Velusamy and Muthusamy from the Perundurai assembly constituency conducted a vehicle check near Karukkampalayam, Perundurai last evening.
Rs. 55,000 which was kept by the Perumal Goundar without proper document was confiscated.
The money was then handed over to Election Officer Ilahijan. Following this, Rs. 2 lakh 53 thousand 300 was confiscated from 4 persons and it was deposited to the district treasury.
